Maria Desmoctt was born and raised in Mexico City where she completed her first degree in Psychology. She immigrated to Canada 13 years ago and completed her Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. Maria specializes in working with children, adolescents, adults, and their families utilizing different approaches, such as Mindfulness, Trauma-Informed practices, Solution-focused therapies (SFT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), among others. Maria is a strong believer in the practice of Mindfulness and Yoga which she incorporates in her therapeutic practice and her own daily life. Maria works from an Anti-oppression framework, as she truly believes that every individual is unique and that uniqueness is what makes them very special. Maria also focuses on establishing a good therapeutic relationship with each of her clients making them feel safe, understood, and protected.
Education: Maria possesses a BA in Psychology from Mexico, MACP from Yorkville University. Maria is a Registered Psychotherapist in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and also with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). Maria has a certification in Clinical Traumatologist and also in Anger Management, therefore, she has taken diverse courses and certificates such as Anti-Oppression Psychotherapy, Narrative, DBT, Play Therapy, Anxiety, MBCT, overdose prevention training, Addiction care and treatment, Naloxone Treatment, Trauma and resistance among others, as she is constantly working on her professional development.
